SaaS is empowering industry transformation

Brisbane, 1 May 2019 - Leading enterprise Software as a Service (SaaS) provider TechnologyOne (ASX:TNE) has announced a new partnership this month with US-based Netflix co-founding executive, Mitch Lowe, to demonstrate how to disrupt and lead industry transformation.

Mitch Lowe is the CEO of MoviePass and an industry transformation expert, who will deliver a keynote presentation at TechnologyOne’s forthcoming Showcase events in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

TechnologyOne’s CEO, Ed Chung said, “As Netflix’s co-founding executive, Mitch had a leading role in its ability to rapidly redefine the entertainment business, captivated a global audience and ride an unparalleled industry growth trajectory.

“As a pioneering industry disrupter, the Netflix story is prescient for Australian industries undergoing their own customer-led transformation strategies,” Mr Chung said.

“Mitch’s vision for Netflix has transformed how we consume entertainment and he draws fascinating and valuable parallels to industry transformation via Software as a Service,” he said.

“Organisations that don’t embrace transformation run the risk of being disrupted, or worse, made obsolete, by those that do. In the same way Netflix embraced a new era of technology, disrupted the movie industry and left many laggards in its wake, SaaS solutions are enabling organisations to innovate and transform faster than ever before.

“Showcase 2019 will explore how enterprise SaaS is empowering industry transformation, enabling organisations to grow their businesses and become innovators in their industry,” said Chung.

Chung also announced other industry heavyweights as speakers for its Local Government, Education, Health & Community Services and Asset & Project Intensive industry breakout streams, including IBRS principal analyst Dr Joe Sweeney and higher education industry stalwart Professor Peter Nikoletatos.

Keeping millennials inspired

Prof. Peter Nikoletatos, TechnologyOne’s Industry Director - Education, Adjunct Professor of Computer Sciences and IT, La Trobe University and former CIO at La Trobe University, Curtin University, University of Newcastle and Australian National University, will lead a panel discussion into the expectations of today’s millennial students, leveraging the findings of a recent survey of more than 1,000 Australian university students.

The survey revealed a large proportion of students are underwhelmed by their university’s use of technology, with 30 per cent of students “uninspired” by their university’s technology innovation.

“Students expect ubiquitous, anytime, anywhere access to university content, the same way we now consume on-demand entertainment like Netflix or Spotify. It’s about instant access when and where it suits the individual, and in bites of ‘snackable study’ or bouts of ‘study streaming’,” said Nikoletatos.

Future of work and SaaS

Dr. Sweeney will deep dive into the key findings from a recent study commissioned by TechnologyOne on Australian & New Zealand senior executives' attitudes, expectations and plans for enterprise software, and the significance for each respective industry stream.

The study, titled The 2019 State of Enterprise Software, revealed that business units have overtaken IT departments as the major drivers behind technology spend and 68 per cent of organisations are planning to spend a considerable amount on overhauling their ageing enterprise solutions in 2019-2020.

Commenting on the study, Mr Chung said: “Gone are the days when IT could take months, possibly years to gather requirements, plan, select and implement enterprise software, and then expect immediate uptake and employee satisfaction.”

“If outdated technology or resistant-to-change IT teams are standing in the way of a department’s digital transformation aspirations, they will go around them.”

Showcase 2019 will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on 29 May 2019, before travelling to the International Convention Centre Sydney on 4 June and the Grand Hyatt Melbourne on 6 June. Registration for Showcase is currently open for Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, with additional dates to be announced for Perth, Wellington and London.
