Australia’s largest ERP software firm to open new London office and recruit more staff after seeing further growth in UK Local Government sector

18 May 2022 – TechnologyOne, Australia’s largest ERP Software as a Service (SaaS) provider, is seeing strong UK growth after almost doubling its local government customer base in two years, in particular at a unitary and regional authority level. TechnologyOne has also seen existing Council customers renewing and extending their SaaS footprint.

The company’s UK growth is being driven by increased demand from Councils embarking on digital transformation projects, as they look to strengthen business management processes, resiliency and deliver efficiencies, in order to recover from the pandemic, battle rising inflationary pressures and build in sustainability.

TechnologyOne is now providing financial, payroll and HR management solutions to a number of unitary authorities across England, Wales and Scotland. Recent contract wins include Blackpool Council, Conwy County Borough Council and Derby City Council. In Scotland, TechnologyOne works with Clackmannanshire Council and Edinburgh Leisure, a charity born out of the City of Edinburgh Council, as well as Scottish Fire and Rescue.

More than half of Northern Ireland councils are also now entrusting TechnologyOne to digitally transform their operations, following recent wins, including Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council, and Fermanagh & Omagh District Council.

As a result of the growing demand for its SaaS technology, the company has seen its UK team grow 20% in the past six months and is currently hiring throughout the business. The ERP SaaS provider is also set to open a new London office to accommodate new hires across sales, marketing and client relationship management.

With the company forecasting that the UK represents a large addressable market, three times the size of its Asia-Pacific core business, it is now relocating its UK headquarters to Paddington in London.

In November, TechnologyOne announced the appointment of Leo Hanna as its new UK Executive Vice President to spearhead the company’s continued growth in the local government and higher education sectors. Hanna brings more than 20 years’ experience building and leading sales, marketing and professional services organisations in some of the world’s top technology and SaaS firms, including Oracle, Symantec and Microsoft Corporation.

Speaking ahead of TechnologyOne’s half-year financial results on May 24th 2022, UK EVP Leo Hanna said: “The past six months, talking to customers, has shown me there’s strong demand for our financial and management software. Local government organisations are facing tremendous pressures right now, and having real-time business and financial insight to improve decision making is crucial. This will only increase as more councils consolidate into larger unitary and regional authorities, as part of the government’s levelling up agenda.”

“Having listened to their needs, we’re looking forward to introducing new functionality that will help councils strengthen governance, compliance and risk capabilities; as well as improve both financial and environmental sustainability,” he said.

Steve Thompson, Director of Resources at Blackpool Council, said: “Blackpool Council relies on strategic software partners like TechnologyOne who can enable us to digitally transform and automate our business processes to reduce unnecessary bureaucracy and costs.”

“This is key to giving our employees the best tools to work smarter and faster within an increasingly complex multi-entity organisation as the local government sector continues to adapt to meet increasing demands and financial pressures,” he said.

In September, TechnologyOne also announced it had upgraded all of its UK local authority customers to government-strength cyber security protection. The company has upgraded its Software as a Service (SaaS) Platform to meet the stringent Australian Federal Government IRAP security standard, so it can handle data classified as PROTECTED. This new high level of cyber security has also been applied to existing and new UK council and university customers and surpasses obligations set out within the HMG National Cyber Security Strategy 2016-2021, associated Government Functional Standards, minimum cyber security standards along with UK National Cyber Security Centre’s principles and guidance.
