Glenorchy City Council leads local government into the cloud
Tasmania's Glenorchy City Council is leading the way for Australian local governments, transforming its business into a fully cloud-based operation
The council will shift its business from using a suite of TechnologyOne products on premise, to OneCouncil on the TechnologyOne Cloud.
"We're a small organisation and don't have a large resource pool, as with most local governments. We couldn't afford to maintain in-house support for our IT infrastructure, which was ageing and needed updating," said Anna Holland, ICT Project Officer.
"With technology changing so rapidly, it was hard for our small team to keep pace. The cloud strategy takes care of all of this for us, and enables access to information anywhere, at any time and from any device. It also empowers Council to be more flexible to rapidly adopt new technology as it becomes available."
Ms Holland said the shift from on-premise to cloud will equip Council to better mobilise its workforce.
"A large number of our staff are field workers, who currently come in and out of the office between jobs to collect paperwork. Half the team still use clipboards and paper," she said.
"By moving to the cloud we can replace this with tablets and smart mobile devices, and field staff can access all their information while out in the field. This will really improve productivity, and creates a proactive workforce that can work smarter and provide customers with a better experience."
With built in disaster recovery and active-active data configuration, the TechnologyOne Cloud will also significantly reduce risk for Council, Ms Holland added.
"Glenorchy City Council has greatly simplified its computing model by removing the complexity and cost of an on-premise model," said TechnologyOne Executive Chairman Adrian Di Marco.
"With highly available infrastructure that has redundancy built in at every level, the TechnologyOne Cloud delivers our enterprise software as a service in a high performing, reliable and secure manner.
"Council no longer has to worry about running or updating their software and infrastructure - we will take care of all of that for them. By removing the burden of managing its computing environment, it can focus on business, rather than the supporting technology."
